How to remove your home address from the Companies House register
Used your home as your registered office? Here's how to remove it from the Companies House register with form SR01, what it costs and what it can't fix.
Learn how to change your registered office address with Companies House, what you need, when it takes effect and which other records to update.

You can change your limited company’s registered office address through Companies House. You do not need to form a new company simply to move to another suitable address within the same jurisdiction.
You might be moving away from your home address, switching registered office providers or leaving an accountant whose address you’ve been using.
The filing is one part of the job. You also need the right to use the new address and a plan for receiving company post during the change.
Have these ready:
Your company name and registration number.
The full new address, including postcode.
Permission to use it as your registered office.
Access to your filing account and the company authentication code if filing directly online.
A plan for mail still sent to the old address.
Missing the code? Read our guide to getting or recovering your Companies House authentication code.
Your new address must meet the registered office requirements, including being an appropriate physical address in the correct jurisdiction.
A company registered in England and Wales can move its registered office between England and Wales. It cannot move that registered office to Scotland or Northern Ireland through a normal address-change filing.
If you are switching providers, activate the new service and confirm the exact address format before submitting anything. Check mail scanning, original-document handling and any cancellation arrangements with your existing provider.
Use the official Companies House service for filing company changes. Select the registered office change for your company, enter the replacement address and check it carefully before submission.
You can also use an authorised provider to handle the filing. The paper route uses form AD01; the official AD01 guidanceidentifies circumstances where a paper form is required.
Companies House says to notify it within 14 days of a registered office change. Arrange the filing promptly rather than waiting for your annual confirmation statement.
Your registered office does not officially change until Companies House registers the new address. A saved draft or submitted request is not the same as a completed change.
Check the public company register and retain the filing confirmation with your company documents. If the application is rejected, correct the issue and resubmit.
The government’s company address guidance also confirms that Companies House tells HMRC about the registered office change. Check any separate HMRC contact addresses or tax registrations that need updating for your circumstances.
Check | What to do |
|---|---|
Website and document templates | Update places displaying your registered office, including relevant website disclosures, letters and order forms |
Bank, insurer and accountant | Tell each organisation where its own records or correspondence need updating |
Director and PSC service addresses | Check separately; changing the registered office does not automatically replace every address associated with an individual |
Company records location | Check whether a separately registered inspection address also needs changing |
Old provider | Agree cancellation and handling of late-arriving post |
For example, if you’ve used an accountant’s address as both your registered office and your director’s service address, check and update both records when leaving. One company address filing should not be treated as confirmation that all personal address records have changed.
It updates the current registered office. It does not automatically remove the previous address from historical documents.
If the old address is your home, read how to remove your home address from the Companies House register. The address change and the historical suppression application are separate tasks.
For a company registered in England and Wales, you can link your company to FOUNDRS and use its London registered office. FOUNDRS files the address change with Companies House and provides a digital mailbox for company correspondence covered by the service.
