Annual Accounts Explained: What to File and When

Used your home as your registered office? Here's how to remove it from the Companies House register with form SR01, what it costs and what it can't fix.

If you've used your home address as your company's registered office, you can apply to Companies House to hide it from the public register using form SR01. It costs £34 for each document your address appears on.
There's one catch. You can't remove an address that's still your current registered office. You need to move your registered office somewhere else first, then apply.
This has only been possible since 27 January 2025. Before that, a home address used as a registered office stayed on the record for good. If you looked into this before and were told no, it's worth checking again.
What you need to do depends on where your home address appears.
Where your home address appears | Can you remove it? | What you need to do first |
|---|---|---|
Registered office of an active company | Yes | Change your registered office to a new address (form AD01) |
Registered office of a dissolved company | Yes | Wait 6 months after the company was dissolved |
Your service address as a director, secretary or PSC | Yes | If you still hold the role and it's your current address, give a replacement address |
Any of the above, where your home is also your company's SAIL address (where its registers are kept) | Yes | Change the SAIL address as well, before you apply |
Your usual home address as a director is a different thing. Companies House holds it, but doesn't publish it, so there's nothing to remove. Your home only appears publicly if you used it as your registered office or your service address.
Move your registered office. Choose a new address that meets the rules: a physical UK address, in the same part of the UK as your company, where post will reach someone. If you don’t have one, a registered office service such as FOUNDRS gives you an address you can use straight away.
Find every filing that shows your home address. Search your company on the Companies House register and open its filing history. For most founders, the main one is the original incorporation filing.
List the right filings. List the filing that gave your home address as the registered office. Don't list the AD01 that changed it, because that one shows your new address.
Pay the fee. It's £34 for each document you list, paid online through GOV.UK Pay. You'll get a payment reference at the end.
Fill in form SR01. Download it from GOV.UK. You'll give the home address you want removed, the documents it appears on, and a replacement address if you still hold a role in the company.
Send it. Email the completed form and your payment reference to dsr@companieshouse.gov.uk. That's the quickest route. Companies House rejects applications without the payment reference.
You can post the form instead, with a cheque or postal order, but paper applications usually take longer.
Companies House tells you once it has processed your application. It doesn't give a fixed timescale for individual applications, and it says the time depends on how many documents you've listed.
If it's accepted, your address is hidden from the documents you listed. For an address used as a former registered office, Companies House doesn't wipe it completely. It hides most of it and leaves the first half of the postcode visible, so someone could still see your general area, but not your street or house.
If you're still a director, secretary or person with significant control, you'll need to give an alternative address to show on the register in its place.
Copies on other websites. Company details are picked up by business directories, credit check sites and data brokers. SR01 only changes the Companies House register. It can't remove your address from sites that copied it earlier. You'll need to contact those sites one by one, and some may not respond.
Credit reference agencies. Companies House can share directors' home addresses with credit reference agencies, even when they're not on the public register. If you, or someone at your address, are at serious risk of violence or intimidation because of your company's work, you can apply separately to stop this. It costs £100. Check GOV.UK's guidance for who qualifies.
That's why the simplest fix is not to use your home address in the first place. If you're still setting up your company, our guide to choosing a registered office address covers the alternatives.
The SR01 form is for individuals applying about their own details. If you need help, an accountant or your formation provider can help you prepare it.
To remove your home address, you need a new registered office first. FOUNDRS gives you a London registered office address as part of your subscription, so you can change your address and apply to hide the old one straight away.
Your official post is scanned and sent to your inbox, and FOUNDRS reminds you before every Companies House and HMRC deadline. It's £60 for your first six months, then £15 a month.
