How to import your existing company

If your company is already registered at Companies House, you can import it into FOUNDRS. You don't need to have formed it with us.

Who can import a company

You can import a company if:

  • It's active on the Companies House register. Dormant companies can't be imported.
  • It has a sole director. Companies with more than one director can't be imported yet.

Import your company

  1. Start an import

Go to app.foundrs.ai/onboarding. Choose Run & grow my existing business, then select Continue.

Choose Run & grow my existing business.
  2. Find your company

Search by company number or name. Check that the company name, number and registered office address match your records before continuing.

  3. Create your account

Create your account with your email address and a password, then select Continue. Or select Continue with Google.

  4. Tell us about your company

Answer a few questions about your company, such as your estimated turnover and whether you have employees. This is part of your onboarding. The questions are optional, but your answers help us tailor FOUNDRS to your company.

  5. Add your authentication code (optional)

Enter your 6-digit Companies House authentication code, also known as your WebFiling code, then select Connect. You'll find it in the letter Companies House sent when your company was incorporated. Can't find it? Select Request a replacement from Companies House.

If you don't have it to hand, select Skip for now. You can add it later, but FOUNDRS can't file on your behalf until you do.

Enter your authentication code, or skip for now.
  6. Verify your email address

We'll send you an email with a verification link. Select the link, then return to FOUNDRS and select I've verified — continue. If the email hasn't arrived, check your spam folder or select Resend email.

Confirm your email address before verifying your identity.
  7. Verify your identity

Next, verify your identity with Entrust, our identity verification provider. You may see the Onfido name on screen. This step is required and can't be skipped. See Verifying your identity.

Once you're verified, your import is complete and you'll go straight to your dashboard.

What importing does

Importing brings these details from the Companies House register into FOUNDRS:

  • Company name and number
  • SIC codes
  • Registered office address
  • Director details
  • People with significant control (PSC) details
  • Incorporation date
  • Confirmation statement due date
  • Accounts due date

Your shareholder register is only imported once you've added your authentication code (WebFiling code).

Importing also sets up compliance tasks for your upcoming deadlines. See Understanding your compliance tasks.

It doesn't change anything at Companies House. FOUNDRS can only act on your behalf once you've given us your authentication code.

What happens next

Your dashboard shows your company's key details and your most important tasks, with the most urgent first. You can snooze a task if you're not ready to deal with it. See Understanding your compliance tasks.

If you skipped your authentication code, you'll see a task to add it. You'll need it before FOUNDRS can file anything on your behalf.

Troubleshooting

I can't find my company

Check the company name is spelled correctly, or that you've entered the full company number, including any leading zeros or letters. If your company was registered very recently, it may not appear in search results yet. Still can't find it? Email help@foundrs.ai and we'll get back to you.

I'm told my company can't be imported

At the moment, FOUNDRS can only import active companies with a sole director. If your company is dormant or has more than one director, it can't be imported yet.

The details shown are out of date

FOUNDRS shows what Companies House holds. If something has changed, you'll need to update it at Companies House.

I'm told my company is already on FOUNDRS

This means someone has already imported the company. If you think this is a mistake, email help@foundrs.ai and our team will help.
